The Padma Bridge has witnessed a sharp increase in toll collection ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, generating over Tk13 crore in just three days as homebound travelers head to southern districts without major disruptions.
According to officials, more than 119,000 vehicles crossed the bridge via the Mawa and Jajira ends from Tuesday to Thursday, setting a new record for both traffic volume and toll revenue.
Executive Engineer of the bridge site office, Abu Sayeed Niloy, confirmed that a total of Tk13 crore 15 lakh was collected during the three-day period.
Authorities said commuters from 21 southern districts are now traveling comfortably without congestion, ensuring a smoother Eid journey.
To maintain uninterrupted traffic flow, seven dedicated toll booths for heavy vehicles and three separate booths for motorcycles have been kept operational, allowing faster toll collection and smooth vehicular movement.
Officials added that efforts are ongoing to ensure a hassle-free travel experience for Eid home goers heading to the southern region.
