A court on Thursday rejected the bail petition of Dhaka University (DU) Sociology Department Professor AKM Jamal Uddin in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Paltan Police Station in the capital.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita
Islam passed the order, Defence Lawyer Golam Rabbani confirmed.
The court also directed the prison authorities to
consider his division status in jail in accordance with the jail code after
defence lawyers made a plea in this regard.
Earlier, police detained AKM Jamal Uddin on
Wednesday morning from Gulistan Zero Point while he was participating in a
programme titled “Bangabandhu Peace March–2026.”
Later, he was shown arrested in the Anti-Terrorism
Act case and sent to jail.
Jamal Uddin, known as a teacher affiliated with the
pro-Awami League Blue panel at Dhaka University, was reportedly harassed on the
university campus last December.
