Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s Adviser Mahdi Amin has said that ensuring the rights, safety and economic empowerment of women will be a major priority for the party, stressing that Bangladesh cannot truly progress without equal opportunities for both men and women.

In a Facebook post marking International Women’s Day, Mahdi said that women constitute more than half of Bangladesh’s population and therefore guaranteeing their rights, freedom, prosperity and self-reliance is essential for national development.

He said the party envisions a Bangladesh where women’s dignity, safety and potential receive the highest priority from citizens, the government and the state.

Mahdi emphasised that women and children across the country must be ensured the highest level of security so they can pursue their dreams and ambitions with proper support and encouragement, ultimately improving their own lives and those of their families.

To achieve these goals, he said a future government led by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has decided to gradually introduce a “family card” programme for mothers or female heads of households in every family across the country.

He added that free medical cells and legal support centres would be established in every upazila so that women can easily access healthcare services and legal assistance.

The adviser also said that women entrepreneurs would be supported through easier access to loans for small and medium enterprises, along with special tax incentives and a one-stop service system to simplify business operations.

In addition, Amin announced plans to introduce “pink electric buses” in Dhaka, which would be operated entirely by women and equipped with modern technology to ensure safety and comfort for female passengers.

Highlighting past initiatives, he noted that during previous BNP governments a separate ministry for women was established and the garments sector expanded, creating significant employment opportunities for women.

He also mentioned that free education and stipends for girls up to the 12th grade had been introduced.

Mahdi said that under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, the party aims to further strengthen women’s dignity, security and empowerment in Bangladesh.

He added that ensuring a safe, dignified and opportunity-filled life for every mother, sister and daughter in the country is not only a political commitment but also a moral responsibility and a national pledge.
