Accused Siam Hossain Imon on Friday confessed in court in the case of the murder of schoolgirl Shahriar Sharmin Binti in Hazaribagh, Dhaka.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dilruba Afroze Tithi recorded his confession and ordered him to be sent to jail.

Earlier, the investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Md Matiur Rahman of Hazaribagh Police Station, produced the accused before the court and requested that his voluntary confessional statement be recorded after arresting him on 26 February from the Kathalbagan area in Dhaka.

According to the case documents, schoolgirl Shahriar Sharmin Binti and Siam Hossain Imon had studied at the same school and were in a romantic relationship for about four years.

Over time, the relationship deteriorated, and the accused suspected that the girl had become involved with another boy.

The accused went to Binti on 25 February carrying a knife with prior planning. He initially wanted to resolve the issue through discussion, but when the argument escalated, he stabbed her to death.

Following the incident, the victim’s father, Md Billal Hossain, filed a murder case with Hazaribagh Police Station.
