Educational institutions to remain closed during Ramadan

The Ministry of Education issued a notification on Wednesday, revising the holiday schedule, confirming that all government and non-government secondary schools will remain closed during the month of Ramadan.

Under the new order, schools will be shut from 19 February to 26 March, in observance of Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr, and other national holidays.

Earlier, a writ petition was filed with the High Court Division seeking the closure of educational institutions during Ramadan.

While the High Court initially ordered the closure, the matter moved to the Appellate Division following a government appeal. The apex court subsequently stayed the High Court’s order pending a full hearing.

Amid the ongoing legal proceedings, the Ministry of Education decided to amend its academic calendar to grant the holiday.
