Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has called for the construction of the proposed Padma and Teesta barrages to tackle the country’s growing water crisis, restore river flows and protect agriculture and biodiversity.
Speaking at a roundtable titled “The Role of the Padma and Teesta Barrages in National Water Management” in Dhaka on Wednesday, he said Bangladesh should conserve excess monsoon water for the dry season, when reduced river flows hurt agriculture, the environment and the livelihoods of people living in river basins.
