The tragedy unfolded at approximately 10:30am (local time) on Sunday on the Samal Road in the city of Al Shahaniya. By 1:30pm Bangladesh time, the news had reached their families, transforming the South Banigram Union into a scene of inconsolable mourning.
The deceased have been identified as Jasim Uddin of Agtaluk village; Jibal Uddin of Amarpur village; and Mostaque Ahmed, Jubayer Ahmed, and Kader Ahmed, all of Majhtaluk village.

As shockwaves ripple through the Bangladeshi expatriate community in Qatar, local representatives and families in Sylhet have made urgent appeals to the authorities to expedite the repatriation of the bodies so that the men may be laid to rest on their native soil.
State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Md Nurul Haque has expressed his profound sorrow, describing the victims as “remittance warriors.”
“The sudden and tragic deaths of these individuals, who were vital contributors to our economy, are deeply painful,” Nurul stated in a condolence message.
He confirmed that he has instructed the labour wing of the
Bangladesh Embassy in Qatar to prioritise the repatriation process and to ensure the affected families receive appropriate financial compensation.
“The government stands by the families of the deceased during this difficult time,” he added.
Efforts to determine the precise cause of the accident continue, as the community in Kanaighat waits for the return of their loved ones.
