Curtain falls on IDLC theatre festival

The curtain came down on the five-day theatre festival on Saturday. National professor Dr Anisuzzaman was present as chief guest at the closing ceremony of the festival at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in the capital.

Thespian couples Ramendu Majumdar and Ferdausi Majumdar, Aly Zaker and Sara Zaker, Dr Enamul Haque and Lucky Enam were present at the programme. The CEO and Managing Director of IDLC, Arif Khan was present during the closing ceremony.

Began on September 4, the festival--organised by Industrial Development Leasing Company of Bangladesh Limited (IDLC)--features popular  productions of 10 prominent theatre troupes of the country.

IDLC honouned the thespian couples along with Nasiruddin Yousuff and Shimul Yousuf, who could not attend the programme, for their contribution to country’s theatre scene at the closing ceremony. The thespian couples received honourary crests and uttariya from the programme’s chief guest national professor Dr Anisuzzaman. On behalf of Nasiruddin Yousuff and Shimul Yousuf, Esha Yousuf received their crest.

Troupes from different local cities like Theatre, Nagarik Natya Sampraday Dhaka Theatre, Padatik Natya Sangsad, Palakar, BotTola, Prachyanat, Prangonemor, Dhaka University’s theatre and performance studies department and Jahangirnagar University’s drama and dramatics department respectively at the festival.

On the closing day two plays Open Couple and Circus Circus were staged at National Theatre Hall and Experimental Theatre Hall respectively.

Arif Khan said, we are delighted to see such eager and spontaneous participation of audience. We are much thankful to all the audience and artists who participated in the festival. I am extremely grateful to the honorable thespians for receiving the awards from us and adding a new level of success to the festival.
