Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the country’s first Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 ‘Akashbeena’ at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport today.
The aircraft, which landed at the airport on August 19, will fly for Kuala Lumpur as its first commercial flight, said a Biman press release.Chairman of Biman Bangladesh Airline Air Marshal Muhammad Enamul Bari (retd) said the new Dreamliner will start to fly commercially after the formal inauguration by the Prime Minister.
Dreamliner is the latest addition of Biman. It will be operated on Dhaka-Singapore, Dhaka-Kuala Lumpur routes initially.
Managing Director and CEO of Biman AM Mosaddique Ahmed said that the aircraft will add a new dimension to the flight operation and will help increase flight numbers.
In 2008, Biman Bangladesh Airlines signed a US$2.1 billion agreement with aircraft manufacturer Boeing to purchase 10 new aircraft. So far, four aircraft was commissioned while the first one of the boeing 787-8 Dreamliner reached, he said. The 271-seat ‘Akashbeena’ has been designed to be 20 percent fuel efficient than other aircraft of its class.
