Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) forum started operations in Bangladesh to campaign on digital certification system.
The Bangladesh PKI Forum (BPKIF) was unanimously elected to the Asia PKI Consortium as a Principal Member at a Special Session of APKIC at Fuzhou, China on 24 May 2017.
Organizers introduced the BPKIF at a sharing meeting at Dhaka Club recently.
PKI is a set of roles, policies, and procedures needed to create, manage, distribute, use, store, and revoke digital certificates and manage public-key encryption. Controller Certifying Authority Abul Mansur Mohammad Sharf Uddin was chief guest on the occasion while BUET Prof Mohammad Kaykobad was guest of honour and BPKIF Chairman A K M Shamsuddoha moderated the session.
Dohatec Managing Director Luna Shamsuddhoha, Dhaka University Prof Suriya Parveen, International Telecommunication Union official Samir Sharma were, among others technology and media professionals, present on the occasion.
The purpose of a PKI is to facilitate the secure electronic transfer of information for a range of network activities such as e-commerce, internet banking and confidential email. It is required for activities where simple passwords are an inadequate authentication method and more rigorous proof is required to confirm the identity of the parties involved in the communication and to validate the information being transferred.
There are 6 Certifying Authorities who are primary members of the Bangladesh PKI Forum. In addition the PKI Forum will comprise of academics, professionals, interest group who need to use PKI for purposes security. The task of adoption of technology and interoperability remains an important issue for the PKI Forum.
