The 86th birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, wife of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will be observed today, reports UNB.
On this day in 1930, she was born in a noble Muslim family at Tungipara village of the then Gopalganj sub-division in Faridpur district.
She was assassinated along with Bangabandhu and most of her family members on August 15 in 1975.
The ruling Awami League (AL), its associate bodies and other socio-cultural organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to mark her birth anniversary.
The programmes include placing of wreaths at Begum Mujib’s grave at Banani Graveyard in the city at 8:30am to be followed by Quran Khwani and holding of a milad and doa mahfil there.
In a statement, AL General Secretary and Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam called upon the party leaders and activists to observe Bangamata’s birth anniversary in a befitting manner.
